Laurie Katz Yehia (b. Chicago, Illlinois)
I work in the tradition of painting as well as that of exploring objects, light and space as art. My current work is primarily about a focus on light and attention to ordinary moments and things as they are, shifting and changing. Light, openings, space and things serve as subject, object and media -- formal, metaphorical, architectural, energetic and painterly elements. Working with both traditional and untraditional or “un-artistic” materials, I cultivate tension between anti-formal and formal, free and deliberate, intuitive and analytical, expressive and conceptual, feminine and masculine. Installations connect re-purposed objects, hand-made things, photographs, painting, drawing, light, video projection and space. Pieces are both independently complete and are unified site-specifically.
Laurie Katz Yehia was chosen as a Juried Winner in Round #5 and Round #6 of the 2013 ArtSlant Showcase series.
