In Memory of Georgia Fee, ArtSlant Editor-in-Chief and CEO

Dear ArtSlant community:

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of ArtSlant co-founder, CEO and editor-in-chief, Georgia Fee. Georgia passed away on Saturday evening, December 8th, in Los Angeles. Her last few days were spent with friends and family, and she was at peace.

Georgia Fee was born
in 1951 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and received her MFA from California State University, Los Angeles in 1997. She was involved with numerous arts organizations including LA Freewaves Media Festival, Foundation for Art Research, Los Angeles, and Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena. She exhibited and organized exhibitions in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Paris. Georgia and her partner Catherine Ruggles made their home in Los Angeles, New York, and in her favorite city of all: Paris.

Georgia had an all-consuming love of art, and traveled the world in pursuit of it. She loved painting and taking photographs, loved talking to artists and gallerists, loved going to openings, gallery districts and museums, and most of all simply loved looking at art.  She co-founded in Los Angeles in 2006 with Catherine Ruggles. ArtSlant was Georgia’s creation and her vision, and every facet of it reflects her deep love of art. Her passion and drive enabled ArtSlant to grow from a small art events calendar and online magazine in Los Angeles, to the worldwide network that we now know. Most of all, Georgia was an advocate for emerging artists, writers and galleries everywhere.

Georgia’s passing leaves a void here at ArtSlant, but her spirit will always remain. The great sadness we feel is tempered by our memories of Georgia, her laughter, and the times we all shared together. We will continue Georgia’s commitment to growing and sustaining ArtSlant. ArtSlant is Georgia's legacy and we will carry on in her spirit and memory.

Georgia is an inspiration to all of us. With toughness, humor, and grace, she fiercely believed in supporting young artists and writers. Her immense generosity and faith changed many lives.  Georgia
taught us to experience and enjoy life at its fullest, to live beautifully and artfully.

Georgia, you will be terribly missed.

Placeholder70x70-2 May her Soul Rest In Peace
Parting away of friends and loved ones is always very depressing, but when it comes to the bereavement of people who brought joy to this world – the loss rises to a whole new level. The art and collection of Georgia will be celebrated by many generations to come. May her Soul Rest In Peace. Amen. DbaiG
Placeholder70x70-2 My friend of 54 years
I am so sad about losing Georgia from this world. We go back so far to second grade. I have lost a close and dear friend. Her kindness and laughter will be missed. Such a wonderful person and such a special friend of mine. I just wish I was able to spend more time with her. I am so impressed with her accomplishments with not only her own fine art, but her Artslant creation. She was one very intelligent lady with a big heart. She inspires me to continue my art in my life. I will miss her.
As a writer for Artslant my brief contact with Georgia via email gave me a great respect for her professionalism and revealed the charm of her personality. She was always pleasant, responsive and understanding whatever the situation. It made me very sad to know that I will hear from her no more.
