Virginia T Coleman (b. 1979, Colorado)

My work continually evolves into new spectrums of thought but what remains is my curiosity about the nature of the built environment and the complexity of the human condition. I constantly grapple with how to visually relay this curiosity.

In the last two years I have been experimenting directly with steel. Steel is very seductive for a multitude of reasons. It’s pure structural strength, it's fragility to bend, it's ability to capture time in it's inherent chemistry, it's reflective nature and it's ease of joining via the lucid quality of a weld.

The work is very much the story of my life. I am constantly challenging myself to obtain new skills, explore new places and delve deeper into my own emotions. It is an amalgamation of my multi-faceted background, for I will adumbrate drawings like an architect, dapple paint, compose compositions with a photographers lens and weld like a sculptor.

To me being an artist means to be a thinker, a continual learner, to make my thoughts and insights into visually tangible perspicacity’s.
