A chain letter is a message sent in an effort to induce friend and stranger alike to pass it on, often under pain of punishment or promise of benefit. Today it's a handy, analog metaphor for digital social networks.
In June, artists Doug Harvey and Christian Cummings sent a chain letter (actually, a chain email) to 10 artists each one admired, inviting them to show up and participate... [more]

Seen: Edward Walton Wilcox – Fanatic @ Merry Karnowsky
May 17th, 2010 — by Jack in Shows
Channeling apprehension, anxiety and reaction to troubled times, Edward Walton Wilcox presented a large body of emphatic paintings for Fanatic which opened this past Saturday @ Merry Karnowsky. With his ‘A Little Paranoia Goes a Long Way’ installation featuring ten identical fully kitted H&K assault rifles in two gleaming glass cases, Wilcox seems to revel in the seductiveness of the high-tech weaponr... One of the best shows I have seen all year.
It all works great together. But one artist shines out drastically, completely fresh and new. The artist Kimber Berry has a paint installation up in the Riverside Art Museum that you essentially walk into. You actually experience the paint versus just scanning it. What a great abstract expressionist painter she is. The evolved extension of Pollock with a feminine palette capturing the current colors of the times, something the old master wo... [more]

All I can say is … WOW!!! Finally, a painter doing something more cutting edge. They are big; they are beautiful; impossible to get bored while scanning these works. And what the heck is going on in the corner? … Looks like a painting blending right into the wall – never seen that before, so in my book - a must see. She is definitely a true artist and not a one trick pony. Like any master painter, they can really mix it up…and she does a great job in doing so. If you are in LA... [more]

I was really excited to see PART2ISM'S work after hearing so much about it from England... especially after seeing it in the London Street Art Anthology (check it out on amazon) - This is his (Part2ism) first time here in north america apparently... the other work in the show - while not 'street art' was solid - kind of incredible actually... very different from anything I've ever seen - anywhere... but it somehow works fabulously together. just get up out of your chair and GO SEE THE SHOW! Tales of the Flesh are tales about the spirit and flesh. Does an unrequited love of the spirit live in the hearts of these five artists? Whether it does or not, mutiny is not an option. They're in it for the long haul. Their personal battles pulsate in their work.Liz Young's family portraits are a host of small scale paintings of her family and herself at various ages. The portraits are exhibited in the gallery the way they might be found in her grandmother's living room. The wonderment... [more]

Upon ascending the staircase to the gallery, one is instantly confronted with the bright yellow walls, giving a vivid background to the breathtaking Mitila paintings on display. Far from detracting from the works, the luminous color highlights the rich hues and bold shapes in the works.
The style of these paintings is simple in line and shape, yet beyond complex in pattern, sophistication and content. From the historical refrences to ancient Indian Gods, to the modern trials and tribulations of societ... [more]
