ABOUT Hadid Gallery
Hadid Gallery is a new player on in the Art Scene. A contemporary art gallery founded by Mohamed Hadid famed realestate developer in 2011, it was taken over by director and daughter Alana Hadid in 2012. Father and daughter strive for a vision of a new kind of gallery that really connects the gallery with the artist and both with the buyer, whether they be an avid art collector or client new to the art scene. The Hadid Gallery has made a conscious decision to be a artists... [more]

As many already know, I am curating the all photography group show, "F8 and be there," at Cannery Row Studios in Redondo Beach.
We had an interesting experience while putting the placards by the art tonight (Fri, Aug 2). A woman asked if she could look at the gallery and bought the first piece of art she laid her eyes on. It is one of the 16 photographs from the India Series by Hill Street Studios photographers Lawrence Manning.
If you have time tomorrow, Saturday... [more]

There are some great paintings by lessor known artists on display at the gallery right now. Walk around one of the modular walls and there are prints by Jasper Johns and a pristine example of Oldenburg's Profile Airflow. It is worth stopping by while the show is up. Many artists are in the show but surprisingly they all work very well together. There are some great Rupert Garcia's that I have never seen before. A wide mix of work. [more]

Carlo D'Alessio at MICHAEL H. LORD GALLERY
March 23rd, 2012 - April 30th, 2012

Unlike snowflakes, one egg looks pretty much like another egg. But for Carlo D’Alessio, every day must be Easter, when eggs assume individuality — donning shades of multiple colors, as well as speckles/blotches of varying design.
D’Alessio’s 48x80 study of eggs is part of his current exhibition at Michael H. Lord Gallery in the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs. It and two other as-yet-untitled works reveal a closer-to-Earth perspective than D’Alessio’s surreal and cosmic acrylic... [more]

Photographer Larry Hirshowitz studied photography in his birthplace of South Africa. He moved to Los Angeles in 1991. He grew up observing the starkly divided culture of South Africa which gave him an eye for the beauty, diversity and tension of urban existence.
With an unclinching photographic style he's chronicled both the comfortable and afflicted for New York Times Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, L.A. Times Magazine, ESPN Magazine, Sydney Morning Heral... [more]

This review is by Kathy M.Y. Pyon of The Los Angeles Times photo blog - Framework.
In “Le Tour,” Brent Humphreys’ first Los Angeles exhibition, the Austin, Texas-based photographer looks at the Tour de France. The collection of 15 fantastical works on display at the Clark | Oshin Gallery at the Icon offers a perspective lacking in regular coverage of the massive event.
From 2004 to 2009, Humphreys captured photographs of this event that go beyond the cycling. The quality of the photography is artistic. The c... [more]

Seen: Edward Walton Wilcox – Fanatic @ Merry Karnowsky
May 17th, 2010 — by Jack in Shows
Channeling apprehension, anxiety and reaction to troubled times, Edward Walton Wilcox presented a large body of emphatic paintings for Fanatic which opened this past Saturday @ Merry Karnowsky. With his ‘A Little Paranoia Goes a Long Way’ installation featuring ten identical fully kitted H&K assault rifles in two gleaming glass cases, Wilcox seems to revel in the seductiveness of the high-tech weaponr...
