Kimberberryliquidenviro A must see
by
Lisa Adams, Kimber Berry, Hollis Cooper, Rebecca Niederlander at Riverside Art Museum November 21st, 2009 - February 20th, 2010
Posted 12/4/09

One of the best shows I have seen all year.  It all works great together.  But one artist shines out drastically, completely fresh and new.  The artist Kimber Berry has a paint installation up in the Riverside Art Museum that you essentially walk into.  You actually experience the paint versus just scanning it. What a great abstract expressionist painter she is.  The evolved extension of Pollock with a feminine palette capturing the current colors of the times, something the old master would del... [more]

by
Susan Brown, Marcy Deutsch, Stephanie Greenwald, Kevin Hosseini, Zoe Kakolyris, Casey Metcalfe, Kyle White at SnP Gallery December 5th, 2009 - December 5th, 2009

I saw these artists when they were a part of "Heroes for Autism" a fund raiser for "Autism Speaks" at the Avalon in Hollywood. That was an extraordinary show and I can't wait to see what new works these artists have created since.  I regretted not buying a piece by Casey Metcalfe then, so I am hoping it will be there. This show is absolutely worth a visit. The work is both collectible and different from anything else out there. Not to mention it benefits an amazing cause. [more]

Liquiddetail2 Simply Great!
by
Kimber Berry at Phantom Galleries LA - August 22nd, 2009 - September 12th, 2009
Posted 9/17/09

All I can say is … WOW!!!  Finally, a painter doing something more cutting edge.  They are big; they are beautiful; impossible to get bored while scanning these works.  And what the heck is going on in the corner? … Looks like a painting blending right into the wall – never seen that before, so in my book - a must see.  She is definitely a true artist and not a one trick pony. Like any master painter, they can really mix it up…and she does a great job in doing so.  If you are in LA and love paint…. yo... [more]

Carlos Ramos at Corey Helford Gallery August 15th, 2009 - September 3rd, 2009

I went to India once.  Saw the most extreme poverty and heart-wrenching crush of humanity I’ve ever experienced and I really have no desire to go back.  Having said that, I did come away appreciating some weird intangibles about the place.  The monkeys that would steal your stuff, the betel spit, the orgasm of color, the waves of people and beggars, the poop.  Oh the poop.  People crapping in the streets, wading in rivers of excrement to fill their water jugs, crapping on the roadside and waving at... I was really excited to see PART2ISM'S work after hearing so much about it from England... especially after seeing it in the London Street Art Anthology (check it out on amazon) - This is his (Part2ism) first time here in north america apparently... the other work in the show - while not 'street art' was solid - kind of incredible actually... very different from anything I've ever seen - anywhere... but it somehow works fabulously together. just get up out of your chair and GO SEE THE SHOW! Greengold_question__by_dilo_pxl The Art of di.Lo is
by
diLo - Eugenia di Lorenzo at World Art Foundation June 7th, 2009 - June 14th, 2009
Posted 6/9/09

The Art of di.Lo is Matter, light, sign, integrated in an original figure of painting. Her research is vibrant: the colours are tactile, the matter is impregnated with meaning, that alludes to a metaphysical transcendence. Mixed media canvases that become a metaphor for emotional spheres, of memories, of inner journeys marked by the traces of oneiric colours that create fascinating and charming atmospheres. Yes Contemporary, but with a very mystical aftertaste. An art in art, an inherent dualism that makes... [more]

Antonio Trecel Diaz, Neck Face, Aaron Johnson, Ben Jones, Gino Perez, Cleon Peterson, Judith Supine at New Image Art Gallery May 2nd, 2009 - May 23rd, 2009

Judith is the reason to see this show. His assemblages-collages are acid-etched memories peeled right from the soul of an exhaustive artist. He's always there, Judith, unshakeable, wise, but mostly, as light showing us the way to something funny and beating and alive. The relatively small amount of represented work secures my feelings about how good he really is as I can't remember much from the rest of the show. I wish they'd collect his miniature houses and make an entire neighborhood of them. I... [more]

Chamane at Phantom Galleries LA on Miracle Mile May 14th, 2009 - May 14th, 2009

The lighting in this space was excellent. It really brought out the colors in artwork, It was bright, fantastic and bold. Very easy to approach. I enjoyed the atmosphere the most, people from all parts of Los Angeles, Cholos, Yuppies and Hipsters were gathered in the same place and could connect to Chamane's workon different levels. Mithila1 Great Exhibit
by
at Craft and Folk Art Museum April 11th, 2009 - September 13th, 2009
Posted 5/5/09

Upon ascending the staircase to the gallery, one is instantly confronted with the bright yellow walls, giving a vivid background to the breathtaking Mitila paintings on display.  Far from detracting from the works, the luminous color highlights the rich hues and bold shapes in the works. The style of these paintings is simple in line and shape, yet beyond complex in pattern, sophistication and content.  From the historical refrences to ancient Indian Gods, to the modern trials and tribulations of societ... by
Edward Walton Wilcox at Merry Karnowsky Gallery April 25th, 2009 - May 23rd, 2009
Posted 4/28/09

Portentous but never pretentious, the remote and insular visions of loneliness that manifest throughout Edward Walton Wilcox's work are on full display in this overview of recent paintings. "When the anxieties of this world become too severe," he admits, "I create for myself . . . a reflection pool for the mind. It is there that I withdraw to the twilight fields and amber vistas of my dreams." All right, maybe just a tad pretentious, but Wilcox has talent and imagination for miles, so he's excu... [more]

Pasternak_spiritualmechanix_weblg Flavorpill review by Shana Nys Dambrot
by
Robert Pasternak at La Luz de Jesus Gallery April 3rd, 2009 - April 26th, 2009
Posted 4/7/09

There's realism, and then there's reality. For Canadian artist and designer Robert Pasternak (aka Nak), both concepts are fluid and subject to interpretation. His self-styled metaphysics combine elements of faithful representation of the world around us with psychedelic interpretations of the energy swirling around and through it. Martha Rich views the relationship of inner and outer existence as a more antagonistic one, lambasting the sugar-and-spice femininity foisted on her during an oppre... [more]

Jasper_johns_4978 Light Bulb
by
Jasper Johns at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego-La Jolla January 18th, 2009 - May 10th, 2009
Posted 3/21/09

The light bulb is a light bulb.   Jasper Johns: poker-faced, prolific, a now-canonical giant among art historical re-makers of the mundane. Well-received, well-theorized, not abstract expressionist, not pop... shining a flashlight down waxy trails, Jasper Johns, painter/sometimes sculptor, draughtsman of real thing as real thing, and representation or impression of real thing as real thing. There is something to “Jasper Johns: Light Bulb”, now at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.     ... [more]
