by
Lorraine Ginsburg at Pacific Palisades Library Gallery October 3rd, 2009 - October 31st, 2009

This artist's work covers much time and territory. Her timeless black and white photography hangs between colorfelt abtracts. Both mediums reflect her expertise and compliment each other. [more]

by
Susan Brown, Marcy Deutsch, Stephanie Greenwald, Kevin Hosseini, Zoe Kakolyris, Casey Metcalfe, Kyle White at SnP Gallery December 5th, 2009 - December 5th, 2009
Posted 10/4/09

I saw these artists when they were a part of "Heroes for Autism" a fund raiser for "Autism Speaks" at the Avalon in Hollywood. That was an extraordinary show and I can't wait to see what new works these artists have created since.  I regretted not buying a piece by Casey Metcalfe then, so I am hoping it will be there. This show is absolutely worth a visit. The work is both collectible and different from anything else out there. Not to mention it benefits an amazing cause. [more]

Liquiddetail2 Simply Great!
by
Kimber Berry at Phantom Galleries LA - August 22nd, 2009 - September 12th, 2009
Posted 9/17/09

All I can say is … WOW!!!  Finally, a painter doing something more cutting edge.  They are big; they are beautiful; impossible to get bored while scanning these works.  And what the heck is going on in the corner? … Looks like a painting blending right into the wall – never seen that before, so in my book - a must see.  She is definitely a true artist and not a one trick pony. Like any master painter, they can really mix it up…and she does a great job in doing so.  If you are in LA and love paint…. yo... [more]

I was really excited to see PART2ISM'S work after hearing so much about it from England... especially after seeing it in the London Street Art Anthology (check it out on amazon) - This is his (Part2ism) first time here in north america apparently... the other work in the show - while not 'street art' was solid - kind of incredible actually... very different from anything I've ever seen - anywhere... but it somehow works fabulously together. just get up out of your chair and GO SEE THE SHOW! Greengold_question__by_dilo_pxl The Art of di.Lo is
by
diLo - Eugenia di Lorenzo at World Art Foundation June 7th, 2009 - June 14th, 2009
Posted 6/9/09

The Art of di.Lo is Matter, light, sign, integrated in an original figure of painting. Her research is vibrant: the colours are tactile, the matter is impregnated with meaning, that alludes to a metaphysical transcendence. Mixed media canvases that become a metaphor for emotional spheres, of memories, of inner journeys marked by the traces of oneiric colours that create fascinating and charming atmospheres. Yes Contemporary, but with a very mystical aftertaste. An art in art, an inherent dualism that makes... [more]

Antonio Trecel Diaz, Neck Face, Aaron Johnson, Ben Jones, Gino Perez, Cleon Peterson, Judith Supine at New Image Art Gallery May 2nd, 2009 - May 23rd, 2009

Judith is the reason to see this show. His assemblages-collages are acid-etched memories peeled right from the soul of an exhaustive artist. He's always there, Judith, unshakeable, wise, but mostly, as light showing us the way to something funny and beating and alive. The relatively small amount of represented work secures my feelings about how good he really is as I can't remember much from the rest of the show. I wish they'd collect his miniature houses and make an entire neighborhood of them. I... [more]

Mithila1 Great Exhibit
by
at Craft and Folk Art Museum April 11th, 2009 - September 13th, 2009
Posted 5/5/09

Upon ascending the staircase to the gallery, one is instantly confronted with the bright yellow walls, giving a vivid background to the breathtaking Mitila paintings on display.  Far from detracting from the works, the luminous color highlights the rich hues and bold shapes in the works. The style of these paintings is simple in line and shape, yet beyond complex in pattern, sophistication and content.  From the historical refrences to ancient Indian Gods, to the modern trials and tribulations of societ... Los Angeles, CA. April 6, 2009 – Merry Karnowsky is thrilled to present Edward Walton Wilcox’s first solo exhibition with the gallery from April 25 through May 23.  Wilcox may be the latest addition to Karnowsky’s impressive stable of artists, including Shepard Fairey, Camille Rose Garcia, Todd Schorr and Kent Williams but he’s not completely new to the scene.  Matt Gleason, editor and founder of Coagula Art Journal, recently wrote, “Edward Walton Wilcox is painting humanity’s self-induced apocalyp... Jasper Johns at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego-La Jolla January 18th, 2009 - May 10th, 2009

The light bulb is a light bulb.   Jasper Johns: poker-faced, prolific, a now-canonical giant among art historical re-makers of the mundane. Well-received, well-theorized, not abstract expressionist, not pop... shining a flashlight down waxy trails, Jasper Johns, painter/sometimes sculptor, draughtsman of real thing as real thing, and representation or impression of real thing as real thing. There is something to “Jasper Johns: Light Bulb”, now at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.     ... [more]

250px-new_la_infobox_pic_montage_5 Who Plays With Themselves in Los Angeles?
by
Los Angeles County at The County and City of Los Angeles February 8th, 2009 - April 8th, 2009
Posted 2/26/09

According to this unknown artist and or curator everyone plays with themselves in this artistic conceptualization of a piece. This is an interesting exhibition strategy and it's non individualistic promotional aspects are modest and cheeky. Apparently, this artist is riffing off of the Thom Andersen film LA Plays Itself , a documentary on how Los Angeles has been used and depicted in the movies. How are artists used and depicted in the Los Angeles Artscene or vise versa? Apparently this artist,... [more]

F-ko09_01 Kaz Oshiro's Painterly Gestures
by
Kaz Oshiro at Rosamund Felsen Gallery January 3rd, 2009 - January 31st, 2009
Posted 1/13/09

There is a frustrating push-pull in Kaz Oshiro's work: the desire to fiddle with he knobs, look inside the washing machine, or deposit some trash. At the same time, the gallery or museum setting admonishes us not to touch. As a reward for our good manners, Oshiro has placed his paintings-cum-sculpture far enough away from the gallery wall, allowing us to 'peer behind the curtain' and share his secret. These are no ordinary Marshall amps or Ikea cabinets. Through an accomplished handling of str... [more]

Went to this show on Friday at Irvine Fine Arts Center. The juror for "All Media 2008″ was Shelby Roberts; (photographer and lecturer at UC Irvine). The show was well attended and there were some fantastic pieces. Shelby  had some interesting comments during the opening remarks, but I don't think everyone got to hear him... (there was no microphone for him and he had to shout above the sizable crowd) The winners for "All Media 2008″: * First place: Kelly Lee Barrett, "Let Me Crazy," a photo arti... [more]
