Hello frends! I am an artist. My roots take place in St.Petersburg, which has great architecture, culture and history that influenced me once and forever. Today, in the times of technical progress, mass production and new artificial materials I search for inspiration in the foundation of the Arts - old Russian Orthodox icons, Renaissance and folk cultures. I seek out look for new shapes and images within my themes using different materials, but my favorite is glass for its plasticit... [more]

Has the Net Made Us More Nervous?   Pick-button-5bf6c1b36c3b74ec8f312c7c9f6f1ae3

Posted 2/25/15

A handful of the UK’s young artists have nervousness on the brain—or so it seems, judging by a recent crop of artistic endeavors discussing 21st century anxiety. Among current examples are Helen Carmel Benigson’s solo show Anxious, Stressful, Insomnia Fat at Carroll/Fletcher, London; Rosamund Lakin’s cyberchrondriac film First Opinion at Modern Art Oxford and "This is not a Symptom," a South London Gallery lecture series on the micropolitics of nervousness, facilitated by... Is Anyone's Art "Original"?

I apply oil onto canvas using unusual tools for application. I also try to use imagery that is illrelevent except for the impression it leaves the viewer. Purists want Societies Approval before attempting to communicate in a time-binding manner with the Future Generations that have No Future. I want My imagery to continue to effect social change and solidify My Position of Living in This Constant State of Deterioration of Our Most Sacred Vows. #1 Thou Shall Not Kill #2 Thou Shall Not Steal #3 Tho... Hypocritical, Ironic, and Genuine: Meet Nástio Mosquito
by
2/17/15 Posted 2/17/15

Feb. 2015, Birmingham, UK: “Fuck Africa.” It’s rough on the ears when you first hear it. Jolting even. The Angolan artist smiles cunningly as he pronounces the words, a cool rhythm playing over his performance, overlaid with a collage of moving images, from the calculatedly appealing to the terrifying. He then describes in detail the manner by which he wants to sodomize the continent. Europe is his. He “bought it.” So is America. But Africa? Fuck Africa. Nástio Mosquito offers little by way o... Theresa Ganz at Evans Contemporary February 5th - March 5th
Posted 2/12/15

Theresa Ganz's methodology is like making paper out of paper: she builds rocks from rocks. Heart of a Cave, her current exhibition at Peterborough's Evans Contemporary, comprises works executed in black and white digital photography, with one colorful exception. Her images represent caves, slabs of stone, and landforms—all assembled from photographs of geological formations taken by the artist. Generating in the viewer a curiosity to look deeper, to work out how it was assembled, Ganz’... [more]

Digital Ice Cream
by
2/7/15 Posted 2/7/15

Sometimes selling art is like selling a new flavor of ice cream. In general people like ice cream and will gravitate to the standards. Vanilla and Chocolate,Chocolate chip these are the basics like the still lifes and landscapes of art. The flavor is sweet and reliably good. It is also easy to discern a good chocolate from a bad, just like a good still life is clearly identifiable verses an unsighlty or poorly excecuted one. As a classically trained Artist, at the Pennsylvania Academy of the... [more]

The Dream of the 90s Is Alive… in the Art Museum
by
2/6/15 Posted 2/6/15

The 2010s are so 90s. The decade’s enduring nostalgia moment—perhaps first identified, or at least concretized in Portlandia’s hilarious 2011 pilot—endures longer still. Look no further than this Jimmy Fallon Saved by the Bell reunion sketch, one of the most joyful things circulating the internet this week, to feel the prevailing 90s love. We’re seeing 90s allusions in fashion’s grunge resurgence—piercings are mainstream, midriffs have resurfaced, f... [more]

“There is a lot of freedom to being a freelancer,” once said journalist Don Gibb. “You get to work any 13 hours of the day you like.” The same can be said for any self-employed entrepreneur—including artists. Much is to be learned from this year’s “Capture All" edition of Transmediale, the annual digital art festival famous for its screenings, performances, exhibitions, and conference that hash out media art every year in Berlin. This year the festival's main... [more]

Posted 1/30/15

The Sundance Institute is perhaps best known for its annual Film Festival, which opened this year on January 22 and concludes on Sunday. But in recent years the Institute has also been busy building an increasingly influential artistic program forged at the crossroads of film, fine art, media, live performance, and technology. New Frontier was established in 2007 as a dynamic initiative to identify and nurture independent artists working across diverse media to pioneer new methods of storytelling.... [more]
