I have been looking for the right space and group of people to share my work with for the last 2 years. I have now found that space and am excited to share a new body of work that includes, the beginning of many new series of works. The planetary series, The Vision Quest series, the Lazer series, new miniature art books and of course some of my classics, Pixel Perfect, Angel Hearts and if time permits perhaps a new mermiad and new ballerina. The clock is ticking - Namaste. [more]

Art or Not?
by

Art or Not? "An intellect says a simple thing in a hard way, an artist says a hard thing in a simple way" Bukowski once said. The art world is full of both. Each week, we ask our readers to have some fun figuring out what is art, what is intellect, and what is just potted plants. This week: One of the images described below is the perfect artwork for a health goth's home. Can you tell which? #1 The Cuban artist's temporary installation El huerto di mi abuelita (2008) is a Proustian ouevre e... [more]

A gaggle of young adults dressed to the nines on a street corner in Silver Lake, CA, is not an uncommon occurrence. It probably happens every day for some reason or another. It’s not so common, however, when the entire street corner itself is also dressed up. At the intersection of Bates and Sunset, you can see an entire block coated in white wash. The former Bates Motel and its surroundings, including fences, barbed wire, palm trees, and shrubbery, are all covered in an organic, lime-ba... [more]

by
Vivan Sundaram at Fowler Museum at UCLA April 19th - September 6th
Posted 4/25/15

Two bodies of work come together for the first time in Making Strange. UCLA’s resident authority on South Asian Contemporary Art, Associate Professor Saloni Mathur, is an outstanding ambassador to the work of Vivan Sundaram. Sundaram’s prolific and varied work draws influence from Dada to Dior, which can be seen in Gagawaka and then subverted in Postmortem, the two works that comprise Making Strange. Miwon Kwon, Chair of the Art History Department at UCLA, co-curates with Mathur an... [more]

Laysa Issam al Fannan – Curious Blend of Art & Ego (Presently showing at Art Share LA in Los Angeles) This is possibly the second showing of Laysa’s art that I have found publically, showing presently in Los Angeles, with my first introduction to his work at a showing in Portland, Oregon last year. Having covered the international art scene for many years, I had never heard of this artist until recently, at first not quite knowing where he comes from or if Laysa Issam al Fannan is... [more]

Art or Not?

Art or Not? Sometimes an artwork can spark outrage. An apparently harmless sculpture can cause a public riot that rages on for four decades... But after all, as the artist of the real artwork below once said: "Art isn't democratic." This week: One of the images described below is a pile of bricks. The other is an work of art. Can you tell the difference? #1 It is clear from the variety of materials employed by the artist in his sculpture and from the way in which he presents those materials... [more]
