‘A man wearing a suit and tie lying horizontally on a tree trunk, or doing a handstand on top of a pile of stones, or leaning over a balcony emerging from the water in the bay of Hong Kong… Welcome to the Upside Down World of Philippe Ramette!’
Philippe Ramette is a French sculptor and photographer born in 1961. He likes to defy the laws of gravity and logic with his work. Although he defines himself primarily as a sculptor, he started using photography early on as a means to include himself within his own works. This became a jumping off point for all sorts of experimenting. Dressed in his black suit, Ramette captures stunning images of landscapes, which he integrates himself into in the most astonishing way. These shots are produced in cooperation with photographer Marc Domage and never digitally modified because, above all, Philippe Ramette aims to remain in touch with the sculptural aspect of his work.
