Experimenter presents FILAMENT, a selection of experimental films and videos made by four filmmakers – Ashish Avikunthak, Nilanjan Bhattacharya, Ranu Ghosh, and Ruchir Joshi – opening onTuesday, 14th August, 2012at Experimenter. The exhibition will end on 8 September, 2012.The films are innovative and unorthodox, reforging existing boundaries of thought and perception.

The exhibition, running for four consecutive weeks, shall see each week dedicated to the practices of one film maker which will include the screening of a selection of their films. The end of the week will bring the filmmaker in focus into contact with other people, including the audience, to converse about their own experiences as well as the art of experimental film making framed against a broader milieu.

 

  • Week 1 (Tuesday, 14 August to Saturday, 18 August): Ashish Avikunthak – Kalighat Athikatha (Kalighat Fetish) and Brihnnlala Ki Khelkali (Dancing Othello).
  • Week 2 (Tuesday, 21 August to Saturday, 28 August): Ranu Ghosh – Ground Zero: Dialogues & Monologues, followed by a daily performance (5.30 pm to 7.30 pm)
  • Week 3 (Tuesday, 28 August to 1 September): Nilanjan Bhattacharya – It’s Open and The Dark Faces of Drowning
  • Week 4 (Tuesday, 4 September to 8 September): Ruchir Joshi – Tales from the Planet Kolkata, Gurgaon Giraffe, and New Dream Local.

 

FILAMENT is an exhibition that extends experimental filmmaking practice into the gallery, thereby looking at the practice of filmmaking in a new context. It also contains conversation, interaction, and a search for the establishment of an understanding between art and audience, between artist and viewer. Every Saturday concludes with the filmmaker of the week in conversation with an expert in order to make as transparent as possible the thoughts and the process that went into their creation followed by an interactive session with the audience.
