Boston Properties is proud to present an exhibition of works by local artists Amy Lamb and Anne Marchand. Amy Lamb’s graphic black and white botanical portraits are informed by her background in the biological sciences. The viewer is invited to focus on the basic shapes of Lamb’s subjects, and contemplate the aesthetic functionality of each part of the plant: Why do vines need to curl? Why are there small hairs found on certain plants and not others? The paintings of Anne Marchand are different from Lamb’s quiet and controlled compositions. Much like Lamb however, Marchand is interested finding recurring patterns in nature which she replicates in her paintings. Marchand’s paintings are saturated with rich color and multiple layers of gestural brushstrokes that mimic the shapes of the Hubble Telescope images she is inspired by. Marchand’s work explores relationships in color, emotion and mark-making to evoke a deeper inquiry into the origins of humanity and all beings.
