ROMANOVA SVETLANA-ART
by

Hello frends! I am an artist. My roots take place in St.Petersburg, which has great architecture, culture and history that influenced me once and forever. Today, in the times of technical progress, mass production and new artificial materials I search for inspiration in the foundation of the Arts - old Russian Orthodox icons, Renaissance and folk cultures. I seek out look for new shapes and images within my themes using different materials, but my favorite is glass for its plasticit... [more]

An Effluviance of Santorum from Paris
by
10/24/14 Posted 10/24/14

Where to begin with Mr. Loks' bizarre and pretentious screed celebrating the giant green butt plug that was recently erected in Paris and his prissy and presumptuous scolding of the people who were righteously offended? I hardly know where to turn in this sea of verbal diarrhea, with this big green THING bobbing about like an obscene buoy… En garde! Thinking of Joan of Arc, I will wade in and start by saying that just because one knows what such an obscene implement is, does not mean that we use one, nor that we watch hardcore pornography; nor is thi... "Sculptors who Paint, Painters who Sculpt"
by
10/22/14 Posted 10/22/14

Five artists who both paint and sculpt exhibit their work. This exhibition shows painting and sculpture side by side and offers an opportunity to see how the two mediums interact. David Boyajian’s strong steel fabrication of closed forms speak freely of the abstract motifs found in the themes of nature. His pastel painting and drawings quote more directly from the visual, figurative world of plant life and it’s natural structure that inspires the richness of imagination and t... [more]

ART-DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?
by
10/18/14 Posted 10/18/14

I have been a creative person since I was allowed to use crayons! Creating things that I could play with or use in my grade school assignments from what I colored or designed was my escape... I would look for paper scraps, cardboard, fabric and really anything that I could incorporate into my final production or should I say, self-made "trophy" that I would later share with family members. In grade school we created what was known as a "diarama" which consisted of a shoebox that I had the task o... [more]

Dream fossils
by
10/15/14 Posted 10/15/14

My works are references to things that everybody knows but seldom remembers. The process of work doesn't resemble a straight line connecting point A to point B. Rather, it is like a dream, where unessential details shift things in unexpected directions. In that respect, I never consider my works complete, because they have the potential of changing at any time unless they are being interrupted. I could call my works "˜dream fossils'. [more]

Moving on...
by
10/15/14 Posted 10/15/14

Moving on from the losses of having my last 6 months of art destroyed by a federal airport cop who doesn't know beeswax from cocaine (as if I would spend six months carving a form to disguise it - how egocentric can a cop get? Would I make art just to validate their dirty, suspicious mind? For all their spying on Americans you'd think they would know me better...) - moving on... Although I now realize that psychology in America is little more than a big drug industry sales pitch, there was a... [more]
