Whether you like to paint or you just love to see paintings, you should learn about the several subjects that artists use in their artwork. For those who are in the process of learning how to paint, studying the different subjects provides you with an idea on what to pick for your personal subject. It does not necessarily mean that you will need to to copy other artists' works but rather you are just going to use them as your inspiration or guide. If you are an art lover or collector and you are planning to brighten your house with these great masterpieces, you also need to know the different types of painting, so that you can have a better idea what to have on your walls.

Below is a list of a few of the most common topics in paintings.

This is one admired subject that not everyone understands. Those who usually appreciate abstract paintings are the art aficionados or artists themselves. It's because abstract does not appear to be anything you see around you. The artist uses colors, shapes, and lines to convey his feelings and emotions. For instance, an artist who feels angry may express his feelings using dark colors and jagged lines, though this really is a really simplistic way of explaining abstract art.

Skyline and Landscape Paintings

If you love the wide views of mountains, meadows, prairies, fields, and so on, you should consider painting or buying landscape paintings. This painting replicates vista that the artist desires to depict-the flowers, trees, grass, and so on. If ever the painting is done in the city where there are tall buildings, the painting is known as a skyline painting. The most popular places for Skyline paintings are big cities like New York, London, and Paris.

This has been a well-liked painting subject many years ago when the camera was not yet invented. The aristocracy often pose for the self portrait or perhaps a family portrait, wearing formal clothes and posing properly. Nowadays, this is still popular particularly if someone wants to display their portrait taken in a more artistic way.

Still life

You have most likely seen artworks of fruits in a bowl, flowers in a vase, food on a plate, and other objects whether natural or man made. This is called still life art. New artists typically paint still life art as their first projects because these are more convenient than other topics to come by

Other than the subjects stated above, you can also choose wildlife paintings that display different wildlife scenes, landscapes, animals, and plants. This is often challenging to paint particularly a wildlife scene as finding a wild creature to pose requires waiting silently using a camera, and can often take many hours. Besides wildlife, you may also paint simple scenes in everyday life like an individual waiting for the bus to arrive, a cat trying to climb down a tree, or a couple walking hand in hand. All you need to do is to look around you and use your imagination to be able to come up with the perfect subject in painting.
