Statement

Roller coasters and night clubs are a cyborgian mix of organic and inorganic, human and machine. My Roller Coaster Series focuses on the complexity of the coasters’ lattice-like structures and circuitous tracks, on journey that mimics the cyclical nature of time.  They exemplify our American culture: reflecting the energy and complexity of our lives; and in an ironic twist, our desire to escape everyday reality.  Night clubs provide a setting where revelers enter a zone to transcend their ordinary lives, in a techno-Zen experience - when they let go and celebrate; living in the moment.  The different players in clubs take on archetypal roles.  DJs serve as magicians of the night - by revving up, cooling down, and conducting the energy of the crowd with the beat of the music.  Go-go dancers appear on pedestals or stages like high priestesses in motion.  Epitomes of femininity, their glitz and glamour reflect our culture’s commodification of sex.  These motivational dancers help set the mood and provide inspiration for the crowd, yet are unattainable and distant, reminiscent of the ever elusive American Dream.
