Grazyna Adamska-Jarecka. Born in Poland .Since 1993 has lived in USA and Canada . At present artist at Adamska Painting Studio in Guelph, Canada (website: adamskapainting.com))
I am both, a figure and an abstract painter. My art is dedicated to the portrayal of communication through the human body and to the translation of my photograps of landscape into abstract forms.
Figure painting: Using the human figure as a symbol, my work is informed by new research in cognitive and behavioral science, as well as by contemporary feminist theory and critical strategies in the field of woman’s subjectivity. In examining the self, self-awareness seems to be a gate to transparency and truth. The process of introspection is crucial to the transition from a maladapted, inadequate state to feminine wholeness. The transparent material becomes a metaphor for the desired state of clarity, a window that reveals the real and true self. My paintings are inspired by work of Francis Bacon, Leon Golub, Marlene Dumas and the book" Aesthetics of Disangegament" by Christine Ross
I reconstruct my photo of a landscape through a mental process to an abstract foundation on which I then construct, or rather mimic, the previously viewed landscape. The illusion of the landscape rests now upon the structure. I consider the double play as a challenge in abstract organization of painting and as a compromise facilitating my emotional connection to beauty and forces of Nature. The dual practice obscures the boundaries between natural and constructed forms and refers to landscape conventions. The process of incorporating the layers of spontaneity and analysis, imaginary and real spaces brings tension, surprises, and discoveries
In my abstract paintings of minimal and meditative character I am interested in the qualities of the material I use. The paintings are executed on sheets of plastic. Covering the transparent film with the paint and scratching it toward transparency, stands for the interplay between light and the opacity, the real and the illusive, the chance and the consistency. What happens on the picture plane is not left to chance, nor held to process. Consistent is always an idea. There are three paths I apply, one path of transparency, one of color( rather no color) and one of pattern. They are involved in advantageous way and often seem to be inseparable.
