Addressing depression from an artistic standpoint and using the human figure as a symbol, my work is informed by new research in cognitive and behavioral science, as well as by contemporary feminist theory and critical strategies in the field of woman’s subjectivity. In examining the self, self-awareness seems to be a gate to transparency and truth. The process of introspection is crucial to the transition from a maladapted, inadequate state to feminine wholeness. The transparent material becomes a metaphor for the desired state of clarity, a window that reveals the real and true self. Often I paint first and scratch the paint out to regain the original quality of being easily seen through. Sometimes in my works the lack of background and color heightens the sense of isolation. My paintings are inspired by work of Francis Bacon, Leon Golub, Marlene Dumas and the book" Aesthetics of Disangegament" by Christine Ross
Also in my abstract paintings of minimal and meditative character I am interested in the qualities of the material I use. The paintings are executed on sheets of plastic. Covering the transparent film with the paint and scratching it toward transparency, stands for the interplay between light and the opacity, the real and the illusive, the chance and the consistency. What happens on the picture plane is not left to chance, nor held to process. Consistent is always an idea. There are three paths I apply, one path of transparency, one of color( rather no color) and one of pattern. They are involved in advantageous way and often seem to be inseparable.
