ON OBJECT / ESINESTÄ / DE L´OBJET
From a formation at l´Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Photographie (France), I developped since then my work through photographic medium focusing on its very properties, while frequently calling in other media. I started researches on Object, exploring the areas from the every-day object to the art one. With a careful attention to limit authority in my photographs, I search for their subjects in the daily, the banal, the non-remarkable. I look much at pictures like those we hang on schools´ walls to give children an example of what is a workbench, a bird, an anthill*, and my images owe them something of their generic nature; borrow from them simple compositions, clear framings, neutral backgrounds and lights; refuse the style, the telling, the meaning.
Thus my photographs find their resolution in material realization as in organisation in space : by generating and being part of a sculpural form or an installation. Those passages from 2nd to 3rd dimension, give place to studies and plays on scale, on size and standard, to experimentations on various ways of monstration. Here I try to show the relation of a referred object with its representation(s), to weave analogic relations between this object with artistic construction, to carry out an analogic slide from the photographed object to the photographic one. Whatever their final form, my works never forget their photographic nature, cultivate a tautological link to the medium, keep a constant eye on Photography History, and wink at Art History, design or cinema.
My recent works often turn to themes of nature, and tend toward an increasingly frequent use of ready-made materials. Among them Mosaic For An Angle(2008), or again Fly Me To The(2009) find their origin in pictures picked up internet´s free-of-rights funds. They explicit further my will of an ecologic thought of Image in general, embodying a strict restrictive attitude regarding to the existing mass of images today. I keep questionning myself about my responsability as a visual artist toward them. The corpus of photographs and objects I build now is more and more, and deliberately run by an economy of the not much, not very, an economy of the few.
Since 2005, I live and work in Helsinki. My work is shown in both group or solo exhibitions, in Finland and abroad.
