Oscar Santillan (Ecuador, 1980) lives and works between The Netherlands and Ecuador.
Since his first solo exhibit in which only animals were allowed in, Santillan has developed a practice that suggests the covenant between the possible and the impossible, the seen and the unseen. In this process distant points are brought into dialogue: the sweat of a person to the beat of drums, the breeze of jaguars to marble, bird sounds to martial arts.
After receiving an MFA degree in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University - VCU (US), Santillan has had the opportunity to attend residencies at Jan van Eyck Academie (NL), Skowhegan (US), Seven Below (US), and Fondazione Ratti (IT).
His works have been displayed at Nest (NL), Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (MX), Copperfield gallery (UK), Marilia Razuk gallery (BR), The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art - SECCA (US), Oud-Rekem castle (Belgium), Centro de Arte Contemporáneo - CAC (EC), Fundación ODEON (CO), Bienal de la Habana (CU), Bonnefanten Museum (NL), Vogt gallery (US), Kunstraum Munich (DE), Bienal de Guatemala (GT), The Ridder (NL), Bienal de Cuenca (EC), among other venues.
