Kahori Kamiya

In videos, sculptural installations, and performances my focus is about the impact of human society’s over-controlling dogma and rigid systems. Rooted in my own personal experience as a Japanese woman, all my works investigate the dynamics of gender both spiritually and physically.  I attempt to highlight the global taboos, cultural myths, and idiosyncrasies of current events/ideas. The vehicle I use for this illumination is various images from world news, social phenomena, and the Internet. For example, my works include such occasions as the Beijing Olympics, Mass Wedding ceremonies, and the G8 summit as well as the Internet phenomenon - Twitter.
