Artists Statement:
As a child, I would accompany my mother on her docent tours of the Auckland Art Museum. During this time, the museum had a permanent collection of Renaissance art, and the use of gold in these early works greatly influenced me. Since then I’ve been drawn to the use of gold and the corresponding colors used in Renaissance paintings. This curiosity with gold paint, gold leaf and the light that gold captures and then casts, has led me to incorporate this extra dimension into my abstract compositions.
In creating my Collage, I build each work structurally from color and line. By integrating and weaving forms, line, light and color harmonies, I try to bring a sensitivity that will emerge from my work. My goal is to connect past styles with present, to blend the two, in order to suggest a continuity of time within styles of art.
