About my work:

I am concerned with community, freedom, justice, history, and the future. I believe that the arts are universal to the human experience. I create work based upon observations of my environment, interactions with people, and experiences of heightened awareness that leave a variety of impressions in my memory using materials that are cheap quick and easy to use – charcoal, ink, pencil, glue, photocopies, etc.

My last project was a series called Urban Disorientation - based upon my digital images of places and friends taken throughout Brooklyn and Queens, NY - i.e. on rooftops and in the subway.  This eventually evolved into my current series, Still Life Movement which is inspired by taking part in multicultural, ethnic and historical folk dance study and practice (Chinese, African), modern dance practice - which focuses on systems of feeling, sensing and action. As a result of personal injury and forced observation I was given a chance to create this new visual work.

I focus on creation and manipulation of line, shape, space, graphic lettering, and layering of shapes, focusing on composition and the psychological impact of the image. Making use of the historical past, present and future, art, culture, and community, I use these elements/subjects as reflection and metaphor.  This work was created to represent these experiential moments in life. I bring the artowork from the studio to the street, to the venue, to the concert, or to the public space and then back to the studio.
