Statement

Charles Christopher Haun

American

(b. Macon, Georgia)

1971-

Concerning the cyclical nature of holistic human existence, C.C. Haun's works can be considered in terms of tantric energy forces that are concomitantly working together and against one another in diametric structures ie. natural and virtual, structured and amorphous, ordered and chaotic, geometric and organic. Haun's meditative contemplative works induce a moment of curious self-awareness that furthers a mental shift toward the divine and the sublime. This perpetual mental shift reduces the constant bombardment of visual noise and cultural commotion down to a moment to reconnect with ourselves.

-"I’m interested in making art works that are equally intuitive and calculated, that are seemingly becoming whole even as they are disintegrating, and that are simultaneously recognizable and unidentifiable. My works have to elevate the mundane towards the sublime, to transform ordinary everyday occurrences into extraordinary life-changing events."

Charles Christopher Haun was born and raised in Macon, Georgia, and studied painting, photography, and film/video at Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design, and The University of Southern California. Haun has exhibited at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Center New Orleans, and the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art in Malibu, California, and his work is included in Creative Artists Agency Collection, Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation Collection, and Francis J. Greenburger Collection. His work has been featured and reviewed in Art on Paper, Huffington Post, LA Weekly, Angeleno, and Resource. Haun is a Peter S. Reed Foundation Grantee (2008), and he writes articles and criticism for ARTWEEKLA, XTRA!, and Artillery.
