My work serves as a conduit for my curiosity about the nature of creative thought and creative impulse.
Through the process of creating work I am able to explore how thoughts arrive, take shape and are subjected to the systems and structures within which I think and create. Somewhat like a science experiment, I attempt to induce and record visually the dual processes of creating order from chaos, and imposing chaos on order - impulses that exist within me simultaneously. Working inside this state of constant flux I am forced to address both the illusion and the inevitability of order.
The work resulting from this exploration is both the process itself and a representation of the process through motifs such as the grid, repetitive mark-making, spills, drips, and bleeds.
