Brian D. Morrison was born in 1934 as the second son of the Glasgow paint and colour manufacturer Douglas L. Morrison. He first studied interior design at the Royal College of Arts and Crafts in London, later, foreign languages at the Interpreter’s Institute in Munich. He finally became independent as a translator in the special domain of art and photography. First in Germany then in southern France from 1984 onwards. Brian then progressively found more freedom for his abstract creations  in the light of Hérault until it became full time in 2003.

Artist’s Statement

At one moment or other, artists are expected to ‘state’ something about their oeuvres.  Increasingly popular today in contemporary galleries, such as Saatchi’s, is a category of artist who insists on subjecting the observer to a shock.  Doubtless this follows current marketing strategy, the artist encouraged to attract attention at all costs. Frankly, I decided to pursue a kind of art where the aesthetic aspect has not been abandoned for the sake of novelty at all costs.

With respect to the subjects presented in my Vectorial and Capillary collections, people have asked whether they are meant to be totally abstract or perhaps still figurative in some cases. It is up to the observer to decide whether he or she detects anything recognizable or not. Do not be misled by any title; this may just have served the artist as a mnemonic aid when cataloguing his works.
