Artist statement
My current series of works "FRAGILE CIRCUIT" consists of flower-like fused powder glass objects made between the years 2006-2009. From a soil formed by sand and glass a colorful, vibrant calyx springs up. Fragile in its appearance, it is nurtured by the even more fragile ground that literally crumbles and eventually becomes non-existent.
Sand changing into glass and then falling back into sand again represents a continuous return, reminiscent of everything valuable being simultaneously vulnerable and delicate, yet eternal - part of the fragile circuit.
The individual process of making these objects uses sand as a technical aid, as a mould material, infinitely reusable and therefore the way of creating supports the idea of regeneration and eternity.
