Rashaad Newsome (b. 1979, New Orleans, LA) is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist known primarily for his work in performance, sound, video, and collage. He received a BA in Art History from Tulane University, New Orleans, which he followed with studies in film and post-production at Film/Video Arts Inc. in New York City. Newsome has exhibited and performed worldwide in galleries, museums, and biennials including The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; MoMA PS1, New York; The New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; The Kitchen, New York; The New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans; and Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow. Newsome’s acclaimed Shade Compositions have been performed in cities worldwide including New York City, Moscow, Berlin, Paris, San Francisco, and most recently, Graz, Austria.
