 ART STATEMENT

The art is an intimate exploration of my internal spiritual space emotions, passions, desires and experiences are mixed up as well the negatives and techniques on the paper. The technical process is quaint - I use very thin photo paper (which has been out of production for more of 20 years now) which gets crumpled in the process of printing and tortured with various concoctions of chemicals, the result of which are the tawny-brownish, ocher and tan hues on purely black-and-white paper without the use of any toners. Thus every piece that emerges is unique, no editions possible.

The pain and joy of creation joint together.

FotoFest-1990,catalogue:

"Stanka Tsonkova /Usha/, one of the few women photographers working as an artist, turns inward to contemplate her own life as woman, mother and photographer-and the difficulty of maintaining that equilibrium."
