Carmen Brander studied Fine Art at the University of Natal, before pursuing her career in the advertising industry. In 2004 she relocated to Cape Town (South Africa) where she now works from her studio, producing mainly acrylics on canvas, and nude studies.
Inspired by the AIDS orphans she worked with in KwaZulu-Natal, her paintings today reflect delightfully bold and unlaboured images. Just as the children did, she will use over-sized brushes, plastic cutlery, fingers or bits of card to transfer various paint consistencies onto her canvasses.
Carmen's paintings have been acquired by both the private collector as well as corporates, in South Africa, Switzerland and Australia.
