Biography

Artist Nicole Slater is creating a unique style in the art world through her innovative and unconventional application of paint and other found materials, applied to the back side of clear sub-straights. Nicole's paintings are emotionally charged with bold brush strokes, layers of colors, textures, and reflective surfaces. This entices a desire to know the paintings and all of their characteristics. Nicole says; "this is how I see my friends and family. They are all individuals with unique styles and distinctive personalities." Nicole has a passion for the Impressionistic works of Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, and Renoir, as well as Abstract Expressionist painters such as Hofmann and Frankenthaler. The manner in which Nicole paints is both impressionistic and abstract, and she attributes this to her whimsical nature and art history influences. Over the past twelve years Nicole has applied her art skills in the interior design profession, where she has gathered a strong following, using color theory, balance, and scale. Nicole's desire to go into the fine art world began in early childhood. She is now a full-time fine artist. She lives in Modesto, California, where she paints her thoughts, dreams, and passions.

Objective

My art entices the viewer to look and become involved in the creation of each art piece. The light source dances across the reflective materials, while the underlying layers of paint and various found materials speak of the passion and impromptu desire I have when creating each work of art. The technique in my art is both unique and symbolic. The process of painting inside out, or reverse order of traditional painting beckons the audience to see the individuality of my style as well as the "heart of my work". My art is seen, but the textures cannot be touched. There is a desire to know each work of art intimately.
