Statement

Franklin Evans was born in 1967 in Reno, Nevada.  He received his BA from Stanford University and his MFA from University of Iowa.  He lives and works in New York City.  Since 2002 he has actively exhibited his work nationally and internationally.  His work has been exhibited at: The Drawing Center, New York, NY; Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, CA; and El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY. He has had solo or two-person exhibitions in New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Milan, and Zurich.  In 2009 Element Editions published his print “C/S/SS: A Year of Magical Thinking.”  He has collaborated with Paul David Young, collectively “Perverted by Theater,” where they co-curated the exhibition “Perverted by Theater” at Apexart in 2008.  He has been selected for residencies by LMCC, Workspace: 120 Broadway (2004), Millay Colony (2007), and Yaddo (2009).  He has been profiled o NewArtTV (2007).  His work is in the permanent collections of El Museo del Barrio (New York); The Weatherspoon Art Museum (Greensboro, NC); The Sweeney Art Gallery, University of California, Riverside (CA); and Progressive Art Collection.
