Eldi Dundee’s current artistic concerns revolve around the fact and act of inhabiting a female form, notions of feminism, anti-feminism, childhood memory, interpretations of beauty, subtle forms of violence in western culture, embodying carnality and what transcending the physical might mean spiritually, symbolically or, if at all possible: actually.
Of particular curiosity right now is the almost palpable numinative quality of pre- and post-performance objects, detritus and space, as well as the performative physicality of the making of the artworks themselves, whether painting, photograph, sculpture, installation or performance. The tension of the waiting object, material or space; the ‘spent-ness’ of the object, material or space used, where something has occurred... the state of these ‘things’ before everything gets tidied away for the next event/occurrence/happening. The 'ghost' of the performance, or the 'doing', is there. There is a beingness pre- and post- 'doing' as well as a 'being' within the 'doing'. This is what she seeks to explore in her work at present.
An ex-pat New Yorker who has lived in London half her life, Eldi Dundee's practice consists of painting, photography, assemblage, performance, installation, writing, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.
