Jan Bella Berkowitz

Faces and the narrative of figurative art have been my main focus since about the age of 6.  The purpose within this framework has developed, changed, grown at times, shrunk to a pinpoint at others. There has been always an attempt to understand what is overt in an image, what is not, and an impetus to to more, varied work.  

Black and white, but not just black and white are the colors used with most of my work.  Probably influenced by years and years of drawing with graphite and ink and a little bit of sumie ink brush here and there.  Have worked on wood panel, canvas and paper over the years.  Each offers wonders of its own.
