> STATEMENT
Echoing throughout my work is an appearance of reflecting heat, sound, light or shock waves. While seeking visual equivalents to sound, I create precise and measured drawing to provide a structure upon which abstract and representational paintings are built. Layers of smoothed oil paint are built up over long periods of time, within which images of contemporary reality are presented on surface proportions referencing cinematographic and video wide-screen standard formats. As I develop ways to remove precision and clarity of the drawing via the act of painting, representation and abstraction in painting converse with film and photography.
I explore the recognizability and ambiguity of images (certain objects in my visual vocabulary, amplifiers, already hold a bit of ambiguity as images), conjoining current events with raw, lived experience.
