Statement

Lily & Honglei (杨熙瑛, 李宏磊)the artist team from Beijing, work as new-media artists designers, educator, bloggers and curators. Their creativity and activities aim to promote development Internet based art in China, provoke free-thinking, as well as making serious social, political and cultural commentaries in cyberspace.

Lily & Honglei's net-art projects, video installations and multimedia work have been included in Digital Arts + New Media Exhibition at  Emergence Gallery in Duo Multicultural Art Center, East Village NYC; Sweet Escape: Interpreting Freedom in the Modern World Exhibition at Gallery RFD, GA; "@" Exhibition curated by Ars Virtua and New Media Caucus panel Space: The New Frontier at the National CAA 2009, LA; Virtual Art Exhibition invited by NY ARTS Magazine at Broadway Gallery NYC; Investigating Ruptures in the Art Political Grid, Amsterdam, Netherlands; Chinese Folklore in Digital Arts, at Upgrade! Boston, curated by Turbulence.org; Visual Voices from Second Life, Boston Cyberarts Biennial; ImageRadio New Media Festival in Eindhoven,  Netherlands; SIGGRAPH Slow Art Gallery in LA; ElectroFringe Festival of Electronic Arts & Culture in Australia; Rencontres Internationales in France; Axiom New Media Gallery in Boston, among many others. Their media solo exhibitions include, Wall & City- Virtual World Performance and Multimedia Exhibition at Monash University in Australia; Land of Illusion - Chinese Folklore and Digital Media Exhibition at American Library Association in New York; Forbidden City - Digital Multimedia Installation Exhibition at University Gallery at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth; Prosperity - Experimental Animation Exhibition at Artworks! Gallery in City of New Bedford, Massachusetts; When the Fiction Becomes True - Experimental Video Exhibition at College of Visual & Performing Arts Gallery, Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Lily & Honglei are currently based in Massachusetts, USA. They both studies fine arts in China, and continued education in digital arts and painting in United States and received MFA from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. While teaching art in colleges in Boston, Lily and Honglei are also dedicated cultural activists enhancing new media art exchanges between the States and China.They founded "Land of Illusion" project in Second Life in 2007, a platform generating virtual-world performance and exhibitions for cultural studies through cross-continents collaborations on the Internet. In 2008, Lily & Honglei founded NY Arts New Media & Net-Art platform affiliated with NY Arts Magazine. They continue advocating that digital art functions as a mean preserving cultural heritages, maintaining sustainability and diversity in a globalized world.
