It’s laid out like an obstacle course of sensory imagination—works mindfully scattered throughout the space, hung on walls, towering like disembodied limbs amidst the void, protruding from their designated places threatening to shape shift. In conjunction with the German premiere of British filmmaker Emily Wardill’s When You Fall into a Trance at carlier | gebauer, the artist has curated an adjacent group show in conversation with curator Jesi Khadivi, who joined carlier | ge... Monika Spruth and Philomene Magers are delighted to present "The Art of Narration Changes with Time", a group exhibition curated by Gigiotto Del Vecchio.  The exhibition juxtaposes a selection of works by Peter Coffin, Moyra Davey, Thea Djordjadze, Alex Hubbard, Rosalind Nashashibi, Joao Maria Gusmao and Pedro Paiva, Margaret Salmon, Oscar Tuazon and Klaus Weber. There is a common problem that culture and the enjoyment of intellectual production are not often approached with the right amount of cla... [more]

Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin is pleased to announce The Colors Are Bright, the forthcoming exhibition of work by New York based artist, Peter Coffin. The exhibition will be open from 20 March to 7 May, 2010. Peter Coffin’s work engages a playful consideration that invites extended meaning. The works themselves resemble jokes; loopy sculptures and conceptual acts are often performed deadpan – farce with no apology. They engineer scenarios that keep relevant the impossibility of communi... [more]

I’m told that Air Waves is a transmission. And this ambitious, fun and intriguing group exhibition broadcast is received at Painted Bird, a vintage clothing shop that curator Jasmin Lim (also an exhibiting artist) describes as the “antenna.” Confronted by Lim’s mysterious announcement card, or the press release, which consists of two lines from the Kraftwerk song “Antenna,” (which is also the title of this review) one might find the curatorial conceit behind Air Waves to be the product...     Abstract America: New Paintings and Sculpture is not for me, but I have to admit that the Saatchi Gallery’s done a phenomenal job gathering up artwork by the biggest and brightest in contemporary American abstract artists.  As this was my first visit to Saatchi’s swanky digs in Chelsea, I must also mention that the gallery is phenomenal – perhaps even the best venue for viewing art that I’ve ever come across.  Many of the works in the exhibition seemed too clever for my taste, but the few...   I must admit that I did not make it to the "Passengers" exhibit that ran at CCA's Wattis Institute for Contemporary Art from September of last year through this August. However, from its press description, it seems that the new incarnation of the show, "The Exhibition Formerly Known as Passengers," implements the same format and its is premise not much different from its predecessor. The show includes the work of 12 artists, 11 of which are exhibited in a group show, which spans the perime...
