I was born in Pensacola, Florida, in 1956 and grew up in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Skidmore College in 1978 where I majored in studio art. My post-degree studies include several classes in painting at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and in lithography at Pratt Manhattan Center. I am interested in color and texture, and the details that define an object, or make up part of that object. My newer paintings are quite different than the work I had produced when I first moved to Montana in 1995. The first few years in Montana, I finished a series of more traditional landscape paintings, but these never really held my interest.

My current, cropped and enlarged compositions of texture, light and color have inspired me. I attribute this interest to approaching a painting as a study in pattern and texture, rather than the compositional landscape focus that I had previously sought for inspiration.

I consider my artistic influences to include George Seurat’s charcoal drawings, for both their clarity and their mystery; Mark Rothko and Joseph Alber’s for their finely honed sense of color; and Georgia O’Keefe for her scope of vision and attention to detail.
