WORDS: A USER'S MANUAL begins with the word, keeping the implicit promise in its name. Simply put, the driving concept at the core of this ambitiously curated show is this: words, as we know them, denote specific reality, whereas ‘art’ is essentially devoid of any such intrinsic meaning and is appreciated in terms of individual inference and interpretation. This is the last week to see the traveling exhibition “India: Public Places, Private Spaces” at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, organized by the Newark Art Museum. While the Indian stock market has heated up in recent years so has their contemporary art market, leaving many of us to learn about the work garnering so much attention only through periodicals or the web.
