Regarding Artist -

(based on Wikipedia sources)

Guida Almeida is an artist born in Lisbon, Portugal on 26 November 1964.

She emigrated to Canada in 1967 in the company of her parents and siblings.

(She returned to Portugal from 1984 - 1986 and from 1990 on
she has permanently
been residing in the country.)

Art by this artist can be found in public and private collections such as the City of Lisbon and Estoril.

Latest works:

As quoted by the artist, her latest work lies "somewhere between the playful irony, or skepticism of that which is termed as Postmodern art and that which some call a Post-postmodern outlook, where in fact the will is to seek the aid of the observer in order to fulfill the work's ultimate goal - to be a work of art".

* (Des)larguem-me
* Mr. Green - o lobo das estepes
* Eremita

are some of the examples of this style. These later works of art, usually in triptych or polyptych form, seem as if they are puzzles to be joined together at one's will. Nevertheless, she never leaves to chance the core meaning underlying these works of art. She does this through the use of strong colour systems, textures and other elements so that the true meaning behind the work can be revealed no matter what positions it is organized into.

Eremita will always be an obscure homage to Man's incommunicability, no matter how one lays it out, whereas (Des)larguem-me transmits dissintegration, as a phenomenon along with its opposite - integration.

Being involved in Fine Arts makes it easy to understand her deep interest in communication and its processes, but it is the latter work (Des)larguem-me that truly mirrors her background of immigration, emigration and twin cultures (Canadian - Portuguese).

Current projects:

She is currently working with other artists from other Art forms: Music, Theatre Arts, Cinematography, etc. within the framework of two projects.

These projects are Simul-Arte and Díptico GGTP.

These projects involve among others Carlos Azevedo, Paleka, Graça, and Claus Nymark.

Art exhibits (selection of latest exhibits):

* Lisbon City Hall - Main Building (Câmara Municipal de Lisboa - Edifício Central) November 2007

* XV Galeria Aberta - Museu Jorge Vieira, Galeria Municipal 'Escudeiros', Centro Cultural - Beja, Portugal (December 2007)
