Statement

Michael Dale Bernard is a Los Angeles, California based artist. He earned his BFA in metalsmithing from the University of Illinois in 1999, and just completed the Master of Fine Arts program at California State University in Long Beach, again specializing in metals. While at U of I, the artist was exposed traditional metalworking techniques as well as more industrialized processes such as electroforming, anodizing, and powder-coating. A broad knowledge of digital techniques was introduced to the artist's working method during his Masters studies. Process is at the core of the artist's current work, both in the manipulation of imagery and the development of object. His creations include wearable art pieces and small sculpture that draw on the imagery and tools of urban street artists and the language of metal artists working in an architectonic style.

When not in his studio, the artist can be found indulging in speed and mechanics through his passion for motorcycling. Whether at the racetrack, in the canyons surrounding Los Angeles, or covered in grease in his garage, the artist's two-wheeled addiction provides him with another scale and degree of metalsmithing and shop knowledge.
