Bio

John Edward Marin was born in 1970 in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, the youngest of six children and raised in a traditional household. Throughout John's life he has worked with his hands. John apprenticed with a master carpenter, eventually becoming a master carpenter himself, working in Nantucket, Massachusetts and Denver, Colorado before finding his way to Atlanta, Georgia where he continued to hone his carpenter skills. While living in Atlanta, John was inspired by a group of Artists that he became acquainted with while working at a manufacturing company designing and building furniture for the trade. In 2002 John's inspiration lead him to try his hand at painting, and by spring of 2003 he had found a real passion for his new form of art.

John's experience as a master carpenter and love for carpentry and design lead him down a new path of creativity, and his new found love of painting ignited his creative passion and personal quest for spiritual truth. By the winter of 2004 John had given his first solo show at the Octane Coffee Bar and Lounge on the hip and trendy West side of Atlanta. It was during this time period that John made up his mind to paint full time.

In 2006 John sold everything he owned, including his car, and flew to Los Angeles without so much as one paintbrush in his suitcase to pursue his dream of being a painter and making his mark on the Art World.

After arriving in Los Angeles John had to find a place to paint and procure all new equipment to build the wood panels that he uses to create most of his works of art on. He located a small space to work near where he was living and began his spiritual sojourn that was the beginning of two new collections of innovative mixed media art that speaks volumes about who John Edward Marin is as an artist.

John has two current collections of works. The first collection is an edgy and fun twist on a secret technique that he has developed using Latex Paint on his custom built wood panels. These panels are beautifully crafted with the help of his years of experience as a master carpenter. Once the background has been created John begins a free pour of the latex paint blending colors that twist and run into one another giving the works a soothing and ethereal appearance and quality. Many of the pieces are then finished with an epoxy resin and the effect of the latex paint and the resin finish give pieces in this collection a unique and contemporary vibe.

The second collection is a series of Figurative works that John has created using wood panels as the base for some of the works, and canvas for others. The works in this collection are deeply spiritual in nature and convey a message of love, compassion, strength, and playfulness. Using acrylic paint and charcoals John's figurative works give you the definite feeling that you are peering into the artist's soul for a moment in time.

Statement
When I paint; mind, body, and soul communicate as one.
Figurative Work
Currently I am using a layering process, with a number of mediums. I paint or draw a background before I add the texture. I create the texture by swirling acrylic paint over a flat canvas or handmade wood panel. When dry, I hang the piece in all directions allowing the image or forms to come forth. I then outline them with charcoal or acrylic paint and continue the layering process, using pastel, charcoal, and acrylics. Sanding or smudging between layers. creating more depth.

Abstracts
The abstraction is a blending of paints poured and manipulated to form. I find that the choice of color is more important than the actual form, but when all is said and done, the form enhances the choice of color. With these works I use an epoxy resin to finish the work, which is done on handmade wood panels. Seeing these works in person is recomended.
