Anne Marchand

Abstraction is my inquiry into the nature of life. I am fascinated by the emotional power of color, music and poetry. From these painting platforms, I explore universal currents and rhythms with layers of paint, texture and words on canvas. Meaning takes shape in the outer world environment when I invent new forms and shapes that convey energy and movement. Traveling is one way to gather resources and inspiration for my studio process. My current body of work reflects a fascination with inner and outer space and mystical poetry.

Biography:

Anne Marchand was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Georgia and a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from Auburn University. Her works have been included in national and regional juried exhibitions at the National Building Museum, the Southeast Federal Center, the Federal Reserve Board, Maryland Art Place, the Washington Project for the Arts, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Palm Springs Art Museum, Rawls Museum Arts and the Arlington Arts Center. Her work is featured in 100 Artists of the Mid Atlantic book published by Schiffer Publishing in 2011, in Studio Visit Magazine 2012 and American Art Collector 2013.

Porter Contemporary represents Marchand in New York City. She has exhibited work in Washington, DC and prestigious galleries in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Hawaii, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. She has received numerous prizes and grants for her work, including Artist Fellowships from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and a residency grant to Culiacan, Mexico from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. Ms. Marchand has taught painting and drawing at Mt. Vernon College’s School of Art and Design. She was a visiting artist with the University of Illinois, School of Architecture study abroad program. Her work is featured in corporate and private collections in the United States and abroad.
