Inspired by the literary movement of Magical Realism and the long human tradition of visual storytelling, my work is a study in the various ways by which we perceive and shape our own realities. I am interested in the moment at which myth, science, nature, industry and religion come together in human consciousness.
My process incorporates layers of dry media drawing with glazes and opaque oil painting which alternately reveal and obscure the layers beneath. In these mixed media works I explore the tenuous nature of memory as it is transformed by contrasting methods of interpretation. I also examine the ways in which humans interact and conflict with nature. I approach these subjects to gain a deeper insight into ourselves.
