A self-proclaimed holistic visual artist with a camera, Tyrone Z. McCants, uses photography to share his vision of the world. A New York native, McCants, was born in Harlem, raised in the boogie down Bronx, and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. McCants, self-taught in his craft, began his career as a freelance photographer in 2004, documenting people, culture and the arts.
In late 2007 at the beginning of the recession, McCants was released from his day job. Although it was disheartening to lose a job he was dedicated to for several years, McCants saw the experience as a cloud with a silver lining. He was finally able to pursue his true passion – photography. He took the opportunity to study his craft, take his art to the next level, and start his company Zire Photography and Graphics.
After turning part-time gigs into full-time jobs, McCants is building a professional career, as an established professional photographer. McCants works as a versatile service photographer, specializing in portraiture, fashion, documentary, events, sports, music and commercial photography. Fully walking his path of genuine self-expression, and taking steps to expand his art, McCants is now studying film.
When not behind the camera, McCants manages Proud Poppas United, an organization he founded to promote and celebrate active fatherhood.
