George Condo is an American contemporary visual artist. He has been occupied with investigating the genre of portraiture. He takes inspiration from American caricature, European history portraits as well as Greek mythological figures, often in a dark yet humorous style.
He has exhibited in the United States and in Europe, including exhibitions at the Whitney Museum, New York; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston; the Guggenheim, New York; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; Fonds National d'Art Contemporain, Salzburg; Ministere de la Culture, Paris; Museu d'Art Contemporani, Barcelona; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Kunsthalle Bielefeld in Germany and most recently at the Wrong Gallery in the Tate Modern, London.
