John Gayer grew up in Canada and has also lived in Belgium, the United States and Ireland. He is currently based in Helsinki, Finland. His writing has appeared in print and online in journals that include Art Papers, ArtSlant, Canadian Art, Circa, C Magazine, Espace Sculpture, Framework - The Finnish Art Review, NY Arts, Paper Visual Art Journal, Sculpture, This Is Tomorrow, and The Visual Artists' News Sheet. Texts by him have also been included in Stroom Premium: Thom Vink (Stroom, The Hague, Netherlands), Corban Walker: Mapping Hugh Lane (one of 13 booklets in the boxed set The Golden Bough, Dublin City Gallery, Dublin, Ireland), 2011 Turku Biennial: Patterns of the Mind (Turku, Finland) and Step Inside Now Step Inside: Brian Duggan (Dublin, Ireland).  He recently started writiing a blog to write about a variety of art related topics that interest.

Some recent art projects include his contribution to 21 proposals for the Turbine Hall (Road Books, 2011), and the inclusion of his work in Slide Project(or), which took place in Dublin and formed part of the PhotoIreland Festival 2012 program, and POST-IT, a collaborative billboard poster project sponsored by Cork Printmakers and CIT Crawford College of Art & Design (Cork, Ireland) that was presented across Dundee, Scotland, UK, during Impact 8 International Printmaking Conference (August 2013) (see images at and as part of Cork Culture Night (September 2013).
