Mavis Chan. Hong Kong.
Chinese painting artist. Research professional at the university. Practice Chinese painting and Chinese calligraphy. Also doing other western painting, such as, watercolor, oil and sketch, etc. Student of a respectable artist, Mr. Cheng Tin Hok.
Doing both Gong-bi (工筆) and ink sketching (意筆) in Chinese painting, there are several great masters are my learning subject. I very much into the style of Egon Schiele, the line of Giorgio Morandi, the color of Vincent Van Gogh , the expression of XuGu 虛谷& MiuChing 梅清 and the expressive emotion of Yumeji Takehisa 竹久夢二.
For people like us, who really devote their passion in art and painting, the method or medium in fact bear no boundary. With the inspiration from these great masters, I try to emerge the traditional Chinese philosophy into the paintings by using a rather "modern" expression.
Especially with my educational and social background, where Hong Kong is a bizarre but unique place with the east & west cultural cross over, my paintings are reflecting not the entrenched impression of how a Chinese painting should look alike. Anyhow, feel it yourself.
