With the world reeling from recent global events that have severely impacted on our collective conscience—the barrage of scenes of manmade destruction, death, and disaster a vivid testimony of the dark side of humanity—visiting The Human Factor at Hayward Gallery was oddly cathartic. Of course, the curators were not prophets, but in bringing together twenty-five years of sculpture through twenty-five artists they have created a perspicacious and timely exhibition that reflects on som... On a beautiful, sunny, typically Greek day in early May, I walked up the steps to the Gennadius Library of The American School of Classical Studies, in the heart of Athens, looking forward to seeing a newly opened exhibition titled A Thousand Doors. While I attempted to decipher its flow, a woman behind me, sensing my confusion, asked if I wanted to join in with her group since they were about to begin a tour. As luck would have it, this lady was in fact Elina Kountouri, the co-curator of the exhi... [more]

Sometimes the only reaction you have to a show is “hmmm…ok.” Not because the art is bad, or indeed because it is so spectacular that you are lost for words to describe it, but because the exhibition offers you nothing in the way of engagement. Georg Herold at Sadie Coles HQ is one of these: a selection of works arranged in a large, white space with no curatorial intervention whatsoever. Not bad, not wonderful. Herold offers two themes in this show: monumental human figures constructed from found materials and canvasses spread with... [more]

About 60 works by 28 artists are being shown, dating from about 1960 to the present day. In each case the presentation will stage dialogues between classical Minimalist positions from the 1960s and international contemporary art. The concept of dialogue between works from different periods and styles will... [more]

Galerie Nordenhake is pleased to present ‘Dog Star Man', a group exhibition titled after Stan Brakhage's most ambitious experimental film produced in the early 60's. Often defined as a metaphor for the unity of creation, the film expresses a mythic conception of the struggle and fall of Man and its relationship with the Cosmos. Its images include both the microscopic and telescopic, and range from solar explosions to brief glimpses of the beloved's body. In a similar way, this exhibition brings... [more]
