About Wolfgang Bauer Born in Vienna, Austria, Wolfgang currently lives in Los Angeles. Bauer is well known for his expansive and evocative oil canvases. He holds a degree in Fine Arts, Gender Studies, and German Literature from the University of Southern California. Wolfgang also studied at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellene Kunst, (Max Reinhardt Seminar, Vienna Austria), and at the Universitaet fuer Musuk und Darstellende Kunst (Mozarteum, Salzburg, Austria). Wolfgang Bauer's Work: The concept for the latest series of Wolfgang Bauer's paintings was initially inspired by the inconoclastic Frank Wedekind play 'Sping Awakening." This series evolved from interdisciplinary studies of German literature, philosophy and anthropology, and explores facets of childhoof development within sex negative, patriarchal, family structure in Western society. To promote a discourse between the viewer and the paintings, the portrayed characters make direct eye contact. This engages the viewer as a reactor to the narrative; with the viewer's own social, cultural, political and religious affiliations as pertinent variables. Ultimately, the portrayed characters aim to fuction as catalysts of socialization, prompted by patriarchal family structures within western society.
