Statement

Placing a row of seashells along the base of a cliff and walking away. The spontaneity and ephemeral presence of something so precious, so precise, so intentional that its existence becomes undeniable, even as the waves crash over the shells, pulling them back out to sea.
So too is the mark of the artist. Its only meaning the certainty that the artist took the time. Its only purpose to direct the following stroke.  By the mastery of that stroke, the eye can be persuaded. The painter sees a world built stone by stone, mark by mark. A piece succeeds when the viewer sees that same world complete and then discovers joy at his ability to enter into that world.
Isis is influenced by the wind and the salt and craggy shores of her native Northern California coast, while being inspired too by the urban angles of the cities in which she has lived. She studied visual arts and creative writing at Sarah Lawrence College, NY and printmaking at Il Bisonte in Florence, Italy.
Isis lives in works in San Francisco, Ca, where she slings meat for a living and paints in a brewer's garret.
