Statement & Bio

STATEMENT:

Born and raised in Eastern Montana, I received formal art training from Montana State University Bozeman and California State University Fresno.  I relocated back to Montana four years ago to paint full time in my favorite place … Montana!  As I child, I spent considerable time memorizing “pockets of awareness” found on our family ranch along the Missouri River. It is now time for me to express those childhood memories in my artwork. I believe an interaction with the spiritual elements of nature continually expresses who we are as a people. I have come to appreciate the taste, the touch, the sounds, the smells, and the sights of my surroundings, along with the rich history of the land.  I enjoy painting in oils, oil pigment sticks, and cattle markers, usually on square cradled boards. Finger painting is preferred to usage of brushes in an attempt to identify with ... to actually be in "touch" with my subject!
